October 28th—The anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, a gift to the United States from the people of France. After its dedication in 1886, the statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States, seen as a symbol of welcome to immigrants arriving by sea (from Wikipedia).
*November 3—Mid-term election. Federal offices that are up for election during the midterms include all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives, and 33 or 34 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate.
